ตะโก

Origin

Takho is an ancient Thai snack originating from southern Thailand, especially in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla provinces. It is a local specialty made from glutinous rice flour and sugar, traditionally served during temple rituals or religious events. Symbolically, it represents completeness and enduring love.

Characteristics and Flavor

Takho comes in round or oval shapes with a smooth, dense yet flexible texture. It delivers a sweet, rich flavor from brown sugar and coconut milk, complemented by the aromatic scent of pandan or kaffir lime leaves. Occasionally, a slight bitterness from pandan adds depth, resulting in a filling and comforting experience.

Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice
  • Brown sugar
  • Fresh coconut milk
  • Pandan or kaffir lime leaves
  • A pinch of salt

How to Eat
