ขนมเต้า
Origin
Kanom tueay is an ancient Thai dessert originating from central Thailand, particularly in Bangkok and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. It has been prepared for centuries, especially during Songkran festival or temple fairs. The name 'tueay' derives from old Thai words referring to its turtle-head-like shape, possibly also referencing the round form resembling a turtle shell.
Characteristics and Flavor
Kanom tueay consists of small, soft, round balls that are white or slightly yellowish-brown, resembling glutinous rice dumplings but with a softer, stickier texture. It offers a mild sweet and creamy flavor from brown sugar and coconut milk. Occasionally, it carries a subtle fragrance from pandan or turmeric. Its smooth, delicate taste makes it perfect as a snack or dessert at gatherings.

- Fresh coconut milk
- Finely blended pandan or turmeric
- A pinch of salt
