ขนมจีบทอด
Origins
Khanom Jeeb Tod is a traditional snack originating from central Thailand, particularly in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, where it has been produced since the Ayutthaya period. Originally made with glutinous rice flour and meat fillings, the recipe has since evolved into a much more diverse range of variations.
Characteristics and Flavor
These small, round dumplings have a crisp outer layer and a soft, moist interior filled with savory filling. They offer a well-balanced flavor profile—slightly sweet, subtly spiced with black pepper, and fragrant with herbs. Some versions carry a hint of coconut milk or pandan aroma.
Ingredients
Glutinous rice flour, sugar, coconut milk, minced pork or shrimp, black pepper, garlic, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, and cooking oil for frying.
Serving Method
Eat immediately after frying while still crisp. Use both hands for easy handling. Best paired with seafood dipping sauce or spicy nam jim jaew to enhance the flavor.
